Two blog posts today, but this one deserves its own posting. We first noticed the Colonel gracing the top of the trash cans along the beach.
I thought it a bit odd, wondering if maybe Harlan Sanders (the Colonel himself, dead these many years) vacationed in Manta and left them money in his will because he liked the beach.
Today, however, on our walk to the bus terminal, we saw many more images of the good Colonel, gracing signs that tells people things.
Please don’t step on the grass.
Please don’t mess up our city
To preserve the natural is to protect the life
On the bus ride today, we saw the Starkist tuna plant (complete with Charlie’s picture on the outside wall), but haven’t read or seen that Manta is a chicken-raising or processing location, so it can’t be that they are civic-minded because they have a processing presence here. I did a brief web search, but I didn’t find anything on my first tries. FYI, they do have KFC restaurants here. Perhaps KFC Corporation angered the locals when they came in by being too Gringo…. so they have to keep paying for beautification related projects. I don’t know – or maybe old Harlan wronged a senorita here…
We saw the Colonel’s image on one other sign….. he must be trustworthy or something, ‘cause he’s in the real estate business too….
Domicillio = home or residence, so either he’s selling houses, or advertising his home phone number! A mystery.
